“I Want The Old Josh Allen Back!” Says Buffalo Bills Coach Sean McDermott

Since their 3-1 start to the season, Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, hasn’t had much pleasure.

With 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions in his past seven games, Josh Allen has been the main cause of the team’s problems. In an attempt to help Allen and the club rediscover their rhythm, Bills head coach Sean McDermott (5-5) has placed an increased focus on having fun and trying to help his quarterback regain his status as one of the game’s top players. Sean said

“He’s the leader of our football team, let alone in this case, the offense,”

“Getting him back to having that look in his eye and having some fun out there and the guy that we have watched over the years but also back at Wyoming. Just going out there and having that joy when he’s playing.”

Offensive Struggles at Bills Led to a Sacking

After a 24-22 Monday Night Football loss to the Denver Broncos at Highmark Stadium, previous offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey was fired on Tuesday morning. Joe Brady, the quarterbacks coach, took over as offensive coordinator due to the offense’s problems. Over their last six games, the offense of the Bills has averaged 20.5 points per contest. It will fall to Allen and Brady to turn things around if Buffalo’s offense is to get back on track.

During Brady’s initial days at work, McDermott has observed his rapport with everyone in the building. McDermott said

“He’s done a real nice job,” McDermott said. “He’s picked up the ball and ran with it, not just with the staff, but also with the players. I try and check in with him nightly and say, ‘Hey what do you need?’ and he’s usually in a good spot…He’s usually a first in [and] last out type of guy. That hasn’t changed this week either.”

On Sunday, Brady and Allen will have their first real test against the New York Jets defense. Allen has historically struggled against the Jets’ (4-5) defense; in the season opener, for example, he completed 29 of 41 passes for 236 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions in a 22-16 overtime loss at MetLife Stadium. In the defeat, Allen was also sacked five times.

It would be a great first step toward them getting back on track and having fun again as they attempt to get back into the postseason picture if Allen and the Bills’ offense can find their stride in Brady’s first game against a defense that is among the best in football and has given them difficulties.
