After Washington defeated Oregon on Friday night to win the Pac-12, quarterback Michael Penix Jr. felt like he was in his element, channeling his inner Geno Smith.
After the historic victory, Penix, who is probably going to win the Heisman Trophy in the future, grinned broadly and concluded his postgame remarks with a famous Smith quotation. He said
“They tried to write us off, but we ain’t write back, we aint write back!”

Smith, the league’s highest completion % quarterback and last season’s Comeback Player of the Year, came up with the remark after he left the IV to become one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks after being given a chance by the Seattle Seahawks.
Penix, meantime, had an amazing performance on Friday night, winning 34-31 with 319 yards and one touchdown on 69 percent of his pass attempts (27/39).
