The New Orleans Saints will have a ton of headline trade chips that will spark a lot of interest throughout the league if they opt to start over this summer.
This past offseason, the Saints made another big push in an attempt to become a title contender in the post-Drew Brees era. However, neither running back Jamaal Williams nor $150 million man Derek Carr have lived up to expectations.
This year, the usually stingy defense has struggled against elite offenses, and the offensive line is a complete shambles. Therefore, it only makes natural that New Orleans will eventually concede that reconstruction is necessary.
Alvin Kamara, a versatile running back, would be the main trade chip for New Orleans. Kamara is on track to reach 1,000 yards of offense for the eighth consecutive year to start his career, despite missing three games due to suspension.
In addition to 54 receptions for 355 yards and a touchdown this season, Kamara has 457 running yards and two touchdowns. With an outstanding quarterback, the 28-year-old can have a significant impact for a title contender and is still in his prime.

Let’s talk about the Kansas City Chiefs, who haven’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes took over in 2018.
With 830 yards and five touchdowns last year, Isiah Pacheco led Kansas City in rush attempts. Having completed 11 games with 669 yards and five touchdowns, he should likely eclipse those totals here in 2023.
However, Mahomes hasn’t had a running back of Kamara’s caliber; when healthy, he ranks among the best five in football. GM Brett Veach has additional motivation to trade for a top pass-catching RB like Kamara because of the lack of depth in Kansas City’s wide out corps.

💥Averaging 20.5+ PPG
💥RB9 overall in 7 games
💥Leads all RBs with 50 receptions
💥Leads all RBs with 21.5% target share

In exchange for Kamara, the Chiefs can give the Saints a second-round pick in 2024. For a prolific offensive playmaker who is still in his prime and has a contract through the 2025 season, that is a fair price.
Additionally, by making this deal, New Orleans frees up significant cap room to aid in the rebuild while also obtaining a much-needed early-round selection.
