When reporters in London questioned Dana White about Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua on Saturday night, he lost her temper. One of the main topics of conversation since the fight’s announcement has been White’s participation in the British heavyweight blockbuster, which is set for December 11 in Cardiff.
Despite a Netflix press release suggesting the UFC CEO would co-promote the event alongside Saudi string-puller Turki Alalshikh, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has indicated White will be uninvolved.
Sports Illustrated reported that White’s influence was the primary cause of Fury’s accusation that his bout with Joshua was in danger.
Hearn of Matchroom has maintained that Joshua’s contract prohibits him from promoting the bout, despite the fact that “The Gypsy King” deliberately deleted a clause to allow White’s involvement.
White was questioned about this after Johnny Fisher won his first fight under the Zuffa Boxing banner at London’s Copper Box Arena, and the American seemed obviously angry. He said:
“If Eddie Hearn really cared about this f-ckin’ fight — first of all the fight would’ve happened a f-ckin’ long time ago, one. Number two, he could finance the thing himself,” “Listen, this whole thing’s a sh-t show right now. We’ll all know a lot more in the next three, four days, see how this thing plays out.”
Fury and Joshua are supposed to attend a press conference in London on Wednesday, but Hearn has hinted that this may not actually happen.
