REPORT : Patrick Mahomes and Maxx Crosby Have Developed a Rivalry

The animosity between Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders has grown. Without a doubt, one of the NFL’s greatest rivalries is that between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders.

In addition to the rivalry between the Raiders and Chiefs, two players from each team have initiated a rivalry: Raiders Maxx Crosby and Chiefs Patrick Mahomes.

Maxx Crosby in action

This Week 16 encounter marks the tenth time that Crosby and Mahomes will face off in a head-to-head showdown.

In his career, Mahomes has a quarterback rating of 113.5 with 3,338 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions in 11 games versus the Raiders, while Crosby has 19 solo tackles, 12 assists, and 5.0 sacks in 9 games against the Chiefs.

Maxx Crosby and Patrick Mahomes rivalry fueled by coaches

This week, Matt Nagy, the offensive coordinator for the Chiefs, got the opportunity to address the media regarding the growing rivalry between Mahomes and Crosby.

“It’s been fun to be a part of the last couple years. I can remember Maxx when he was coming out of college and just seeing who he was and how he played then, a little smaller at the time and now he’s put on some weight and strength and confidence and played greats. So, I think you see two competitors that are at the top of the league at their positions and their side of the ball. There’s definitely a mutual respect between the two but when you get between those lines on gameday, none of it’s ever personal, but I think its cool to be on the sideline and see the fire they have, but then also be on the field after the game to see the mutual respect that they have for one another.”

This week, Andy Heck, the offensive line coach for the Chiefs, also got a chance to talk about Crosby. He said,

“Maxx Crosby is as good as he is. He’s as disruptive as there is. You can see it on their defense that they’re playing hard, with heart. Coach has them going now. Then you have mixed into that the whole Chiefs-Raiders rivalry thing. So, it’s going to be a great challenge for us.”

On Christmas Day at Arrowhead Stadium, the Silver and Black aim to pull off an upset victory over the Chiefs in order to maintain their postseason aspirations.
