Many wasted little time in demanding the firing of Mike McCarthy, less than twenty-four hours after the team’s 12-5 season failed to get them to the NFC Championship Game for the third consecutive year.
After the Cowboys were eliminated in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, Jerry Jones remained silent, but Robert Griffin III was quite vocal about his thoughts.
The former NFL quarterback and ESPN pundit believes that Deion Sanders should be hired by the Dallas Cowboys in place of Mike McCarthy.
“I hate calling for coaches jobs because it’s not what I do, but it’s got to be the coach,” Griffin said. “You guys have three consecutive 12-win seasons and nothing to show for it. … A lot of people are saying you should go get Bill Belichick as your next coach, because we all know that Mike McCarthy’s stuff was packed before this game was already over. His office, empty. He gone.
“But I know who you need. You need Coach Prime. That’s right, Deion Sanders, Coach Prime.”
Griffin declared that he thought Dak Prescott has what it took to lead the team to a Super Bowl. He claimed that Shedeur Sanders would almost certainly end up starting quarterback for the Cowboys if he were to sign with the team.

Deion Sanders talks about taking Cowboys job
Sanders, the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes currently, has already declared that he has no interest in coaching in the NFL, even though it seems like a great concept.
“I don’t have any desire or ambition to coach in the NFL,” Sanders told SI.com. “I have a problem with men getting their checks and not doing their jobs. See I would be too tough as a coach in the NFL because I still have those old-school attributes.”
Sanders was a member of the final Cowboys team to win a Super Bowl and played for Dallas from 1995 to 1999.
He was a two-time Super Bowl champion player. Since then, he has served as Jackson State’s coach. In three seasons, the team finished 27–6, and in 2021 and 2022, they won the SWAC.
The Colorado Buffaloes, who finished 4-8 in Deion Sanders’ first season as Boulder’s head coach, are the top-ranked transfer class of 2024.
