This is unheard of.
Miami TE Cam McCormick has been granted a 9th year of eligibility and announced that he will be returning to the Hurricanes for his super super super senior season.
It has been a very long journey for McCormick who began his career at Oregon in 2016 and has dealt with injuries almost every year since then which has allowed him to get this unprecedented 9th year of eligibility.
“I’m blessed that it was me to go through it because a lot of people would have folded under the pressure — both mentally and physically,” McCormick told ESPN. “But it’s pushed me to be a better person and teammate — everything. I’ve learned so much from every year and everything I’ve had to overcome.”
During his college tenure, McCormick has dealt with a broken leg in 2018 then had complications that cost him the next two seasons. Then came covid which granted athletes another year of eligibility and a foot injury followed after that.
Many would tell him to just move on but for McCormick, this means so much more. He wants to be an inspiration to others.
“I want to say I gave it my best opportunity and best shot,” he said.
“I feel like my journey can help those that have to experience that,” he said. “It’s tough, but hopefully there’s some inspiration there, and guys who get injured can see my journey and dig deep within and keep pushing toward their goals and their future.”
Who knows what’s next for McCormick but what is known is that his experience and leadership will be invaluable to the Hurricanes as they look to make a run at the ACC title and beyond in the upcoming season. With his talent and passion for the game, Jordan is sure to continue to be a force to be reckoned with on the field, and his decision to return for another season is a major win for the Hurricanes’ football program.
