Sean McVay, coach of the Los Angeles Rams, remarked “I thought he did a good job earlier on” when speaking of Brett Maher. This season, the Los Angeles Rams’ kicking dilemma has returned full circle.
Brett Maher kicked for the team for the first seven games, but a subpar showing against the Pittsburgh Steelers cost him the position, and youngster Lucas Havrisik took his place.
The Rams turned back to Maher, who has kicked in four postseason games with the Dallas Cowboys in his career, after Havrisik missed two extra points in Sunday’s victory over the New York Giants.
Sean McVay talks about Brett Maher impact for Rams
With his expertise in big games, coach Sean McVay wants to benefit the Rams in the postseason. He said,
“He’s been great,” “I thought he did a good job earlier on. When you go back and you look at it, I thought there were a lot of situations, if I’m being honest with myself, that you’re saying those are tough spots to put anybody in with the amount of attempts from 50-plus, and you look at just the landscape of the league, even from the guys that have been doing it as well as anybody all-time or over the course of their careers as of late, so I think you have to be mindful of that. He’s had some big-time game experience so I was pleased with the way Brett came back in.”

Maher is hoping that his difficulties don’t follow him, particularly during the postseason. He scored just one of his six extra points in the two games he played for the Cowboys last season, which ultimately resulted in Dallas’ elimination from the Divisional Round against the San Francisco 49ers.
Maher is anticipated to kick against the Niners on Sunday in an attempt to recondition his leg in time for the Wild Card game the following weekend.
