Ravens Give Up Two-Time Pro Bowl Running Back Before Their Playoff Matchup With the Texans

A two-time veteran Pro Bowl running back has been dismissed by the Baltimore Ravens ahead of their playoff game against the Houston Texans on Saturday.

Melvin Gordon, a seasoned running back and former Super Bowl winner, was cut by the Ravens, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Throughout the regular season, the 30-year-old played in four games for the Ravens.

The Ravens already have Gus Edwards and Justice Hill at running back, so this move isn’t all that shocking. Not to mention that Baltimore’s best rusher, Lamar Jackson, is probably the 2023 MVP winner.

In his four games with the Ravens, Gordon saw 26 carries for 81 yards and one score, along with three receptions for 46 yards. However, Gordon—who has had problems with ball security throughout his career—also fumbled in the team’s meaningless Week 18 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

As a member of the Kansas City Chiefs last season, Gordon was awarded a Super Bowl 57 ring even though he did not play a snap for them. After being cut by the Denver Broncos, Gordon was signed by the Chiefs. Gordon had another poor season in terms of ball security, committing five fumbles in ten games.

At 4:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, the Ravens will take on C.J. Stroud and the underdog Texans at M&T Bank Stadium.
