Garrett Wilson, a talented wide receiver for the New York Jets, will don a different jersey number for the upcoming season after starting the previous two with No. 17.
The wide receiver, who played for Ohio State, will don the No. 5 jersey when he takes the field in 2024. On Monday night, Jets punter Thomas Morstead shared a picture of himself giving Wilson a No. 5 jersey. “Grateful to give #5 to GW,” he captioned the photo.

However, this development is not unexpected. Wilson had declared in April of 2023 that he intended to switch back to his former college number and that the 2023 season would be his final one wearing the No. 17.
With 95 receptions for 1,042 yards and three touchdowns in his second season with the Jets, the 23-year-old had an excellent campaign. That came after a rookie season in which he set records for most receptions (83), receiving yards (1,103), and throw targets (147), more than any other player. He was also voted Offensive Rookie of the Year.
With the loss of Aaron Rodgers in the season’s opening game the team struggled mightily at the quarterback position. Wilson should profit from having the veteran for an entire season in 2024, as they hope.
