Now that the terrible 2023 season for the New England Patriots is over, all eyes in Foxborough are on head coach Bill Belichick‘s future.
After the Patriots’ third losing season in four years and their fifth consecutive season without a postseason triumph, many predict that owner Robert Kraft will split ways with Belichick.
Should that occur, Belichick will be the most sought-after name available for the NFL head coaching cycle of 2024.
Belichick is the favorite to take over as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons at +300, per the most recent betting odds at BetOnline. Arthur Smith was let go by the NFC South team after three consecutive 7-10 campaigns.
The Falcons have the best odds of any team on BetOnline to sign Belichick. The Tennessee Titans (+400) had the second-best odds of landing the future Hall of Famer, after the Los Angeles Chargers (+800), Washington Commanders (+900), and Carolina Panthers (+700).
The second-best odds to take over as Atlanta’s next head coach are +400 for Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and +500 for Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
Btwn Vrabel, (maybe) Belichick, Harbaugh….and McDonald, Johnson, Morris…I’d argue this is one of the best head coach “free agent” classes we’ve ever seen.

In 2023, the Patriots went 4-13, which was their worst record since 1992, when they went 2-14. The Patriots never finished below.500 in the Tom Brady era (2001–2019), and they only missed the postseason twice (in 2002 and 2008).
Brady’s injured ACL caused him to miss all but a few minutes of the latter game. We’ll soon find out if Belichick’s inability to maintain the Patriots’ winning culture in Brady’s absence will cost the 71-year-old his job in New England.
