Titans Standout Running Back Derrick Henry Says He Was Almost Traded at the Deadline to a Playoff Team

Derrick Henry, the starting running back on opening day, might be the next coach out the door after fired coach Mike Vrabel. Derrick Henry, the running back, will be the hardest of all the guys Tennessee will be saying goodbye to, but business is business.

The farewell was almost completed well in advance of the Titans‘ offseason.

Henry was the talk of many at this season’s trade deadline. Many believed Henry would be the next to go when Tennessee traded standout safety Kevin Byard to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Henry disclosed that he was nearing a trade during a recent interview on the podcast “Bussin’ With the Boys,” which is hosted by former Titans Will Compton and Taylor Lewan.

“I felt like it was close,” Henry said. “It was close. ..was close, boys. It was close.”

“Yeah, I know two for sure,” Henry said. “The other one, I don’t know if that would have happened. But one of them, I felt like it was pretty close. A lot went down between … that little saga with the trade.”

Henry, 30, is nearing the end of his Tennessee Titans deal and is reportedly eager to start over. He proved last year that he still had some gas in the tank despite his advanced age.

The league leader in rushing attempts (280), second in rushing yards (1,167), and tied for ninth in rushing touchdowns (12) in 2023 was the two-time NFL leader in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.
