When the Hawks played the Mavericks last week, they put on one of their worst defensive shows of the season, letting Luka Doncic score 73 points with minimal opposition.
Warriors guard Steph Curry scored sixty points last night, but the Hawks prevailed because Curry made some incredible shots and not just terrible defense. Curry put on an excellent performance, but Atlanta overcame it to win four straight and improve to 22-27.
Here are the 3 key takeaways from last night’s game
1. Onyeka Okongwu and Clint Capela gave incredible performances
With Okongwu and Capela at center, Atlanta has a potent 1-2 punch, and it has for the previous few seasons. Golden State’s lack of size was exploited by both of Atlanta’s centers last night, who put on incredible displays.
Okongwu ended with 22 points and 16 rebounds, while Capela finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
2. Atlanta’s team as a whole had superior all-around performances.
In this game, Curry was the star player with 60 points and an incredible fourth quarter, but the main reason Atlanta won was because the rest of the Warriors were unable to sustain him.
Due to Andrew Wiggins’ injury and Jonathan Kuminga’s foul, Golden State was shorthanded, yet players like Klay Thompson and Draymond Green were unable to generate much offensive momentum.

Stephen Curry in action
The Hawks saw strong performances from Bogdan Bogdanovic with 13 points, Jalen Johnson with 21 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists, Young with 35 points and six assists, and Capela and Okongwu. Beyond 17 points, no other Warrior led the pack.
3. The Hawks’ current run of play may be their best of the season.
Although a four-game winning streak may be Atlanta’s greatest run of the season, the team has looked quite good during that run, and I don’t think the Hawks should alter their trade deadline plans because of it.
How much longer can this winning run last? In addition to the challenging games against the Clippers, Celtics, and 76ers this week, Atlanta will also be facing the trade deadline on Thursday.
