After Missing the Game’s Final Shot Against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Coby White Talks About the Guidance DeMar DeRozan Gave Him

Coby White and DeMar DeRozan

Coby White was devastated by his critical errors in the closing seconds of the Chicago Bulls‘ game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, which resulted in another defeat for the team. White’s attempted game-winning three-pointer was missed at the final buzzer. He stuck out on the rim for a little while before withdrawing to the visitor’s locker room to analyze the video of the game’s closing seconds.

DeMar DeRozan in action

DeMar DeRozan, a seasoned wingman, immediately joined him and gave the disappointed young man some advice and support.

Live for the moment

It’s a make-or-miss league, as the phrase goes, and that night was a miss for the Bulls. But during his NBA career, DeRozan—who has witnessed innumerable game-winning moments—reminded White to move past the failed shot and learn from it instead of dwelling on it. White said,

“I always watch Deebo (DeRozan), and one thing I’ve learned from him is whether the shot goes in or not, he’s living with it. He gave me motivation after the game to move on from it, learn from it, can’t dwell on it,”

“But I am gonna dwell on it. I’m gonna try to not dwell on it, but carry on. Obviously, we’ve got to find a way to get over the hump. I think we will find a way to get over the hump.”

Acquire knowledge and improve

In addition to missing the shot on the Bulls’ last possession, Coby made a costly error when he threw a pass that went out of bounds while Chicago was down by one point with just 17 seconds remaining in the game. White thought back on those plays and his strategy for winning the following game. White added ,

“Like I said, those moments define the game, and I felt that moment defined the game. So for me, I’ve got to take it on the chin and digest and learn and be better next time,” “For me to take steps in the right direction to becoming the player I want to become in this league, I need those moments. So, it’s all a part of the learning process. It’s all a part of the journey.”
