If DeMar DeRozan signs with the New York Knicks this offseason, it would provide much-needed scoring depth. At the trade deadline, reports stated that the New York Knicks were interested in current Chicago Bull DeMar DeRozan. It makes sense that they would revive those inquiries given that the six-time All-Star is expected to become a free agent this offseason.
Keeping that in mind, Bleacher Report’s free agency forecast listed DeRozan as the Knicks’ “dream” summer target.
According to Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report : “There’s plenty of scoring in this team’s starting five with Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle,” “But the second unit could use a bit of an offensive boost, and DeRozan could provide that against backups.”
DeMar DeRozan season so far
DeRozan leads the league in minutes per game (37.7) this season, averaging just over 23 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Given that the Bulls (34–35) are favored to make it to the Eastern Conference Play-In Tournament for the second straight year, it wouldn’t be shocking if DeRozan, 34, decided to go.
DeRozan may only find himself in the starting lineup of the Knicks if OG Anunoby decided to walk this offseason. Immanuel Quickley was moved to acquire Anunoby, and DeRozan, if he’s prepared to assume some sort of secondary position, could easily fill that one. DeRozan’s seasoned presence would be beneficial for a Knicks club that strives for playoff success each season. During the last month of the regular season, New York plays three times against DeRozan and the Bulls. Meanwhile, on Thursday night, the Knicks take on the Denver Nuggets, the reigning champions.
