The Rockets were able to maintain proximity to the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors for the final Western Conference Play-In position inside the Capital One Arena.
Just one day after being named Player of the Week for the first time in his career, Jalen Green kept up his outstanding performance.
With a season-high 42 points on 12 of 21 field goals, 7 of 13 three-pointers, and 10 rebounds, he led the team in scoring.
Jalen Green and the Rockets were too much for Wizards
Green scored 19 points in the first quarter, giving the Rockets a 39-36 advantage going into the second half. In the victory, Jabari Smith Jr. ended with 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Amen Thompson recorded a career-high 25 points and 10 rebounds. Smith matched his career high from the 2022–23 campaign with his 16th double-double against the Wizards. With 10 points and seven blocks in the victory, Jock Landale gave the Rockets a significant boost right off the bench.
At the half, Houston led 60–57. Wizards had a slim 74-71 advantage because of the team’s lackluster performance.
But when Thompson converted a dunk at the 5:36 mark of the quarter, Houston would settle into a rhythm. To end the third quarter, the Rockets would defeat the Wizards 29–8. Green scored fifteen points in the time.
With a team-high 16 points, Corey Kispert led the Wizards, and Jared Butler chipped in with 15. After the setback, Washington has now lost five straight games and 21 of its previous 23 games.
