The Nets‘ game versus Victor Wembanyama was unlike any other. The main cause of Brooklyn’s Sunday loss to the San Antonio Spurs was an outstanding performance by Victor Wembanyama. With an incredible stat line of 33 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists, and 7 blocks, the 2023 first-overall selection was selected.
Nic Claxton, who faced Wemby in that game as his main opponent, had nothing but high regard for the Spurs center. The former Georgia Bulldog faced one of his most difficult defensive assignments, but he accepted the challenge.

In response to Wembanyama’s loss to the Spurs, Nic stated:
“Man, he’s a generational talent, for sure. Affecting the game in every asset, knocking down shots, coming off screens, just doing things you’ve never seen from a guy, from people at his height,”
Getting Nic’s respect is crucial for Wembanyama
Claxton’s defensive ability has made him one of the league’s most promising defenders and a respected big man. When playing against the NBA’s top centers, he can effectively guard the paint with his length and anticipation if he adopts the proper mindset.
Playing against Wemby, though, was a different kind of hoops. Because of his ridiculous height and skill set, Vic is not your normal athletic center or back-to-the-basket player. Instead, he is more like Kevin Durant.
Wemby is a fantastic defender in addition to his offensive skills, which include jump shooting, dribbling, and finishing at the rim. Nic became aware of Victor’s defensive impact as the 7’4″ Frenchman stuffed him.

Considering that Nic is among the finest defenders in the league, earning his respect is important. Even if Wembanyama is already one of the league’s most talented centers, the fact that several of the top defenders have signed with him confirms that he is a real superstar and a strong candidate for Rookie of the Year.
