It’s one of the best times of the year for basketball again.
We are very close to a lot of young men realizing their life long goals are about to come true. It’s a special moment. Not only them but for their family and friends who have watched them work their butts off to get to this point.
I am talking about the NBA Draft. It’s here and that signifies a new beginning for a lot of young men. Years and years were spent in countless gyms just to get to this point in their lives.
There are so many prospects that are fighting for 58 spots and this is one of the hardest years to pick a guy. Months and months have been spent by so many people coming up with a mock draft to try and gouge what teams will do.
What makes this year tougher than most years is because the 2024 draft is seen as a “weaker” draft than previous recent memory. It’s even been called a bad draft class by quite a few experts. It isn’t that simple though.
Yes, there isn’t a clear cut guy for the top pick and we might not be able to see which guy could be a star right now but that could change in the future. The 2013 NBA Draft has been called the worst draft in recent history. It was called that then and it’s still called that now by many. However, even that draft had a couple of stars. Giannis Antetokounmpo was drafted 15th and is one of the best players of all time while Rudy Gobert was drafted 27th and is one of the best defenders of all time. Both guys are on track to get to the Hall of Fame.
The point is, just like in 2013 where we didn’t know Giannis or Rudy would become guys on a path to the Hall of Fame just like we don’t know which guys, if any will be on that path.
Also, this is a great draft if you want a guy who could potentially be a good role player for a while. They’re a couple of guys that are seen as the top two picks and then after that, there are about 20-30 guys who could go anywhere from top 5 to outside of the first round. That makes coming up with a mock draft so tough.
That and trying to figure out what we think will happen or what we ourselves would do. Will a team choose best fit or most talent? Or perhaps who could have the highest ceiling? All things to consider when trying to come up with a mock draft.
With that being said, it’s time for the BSO NBA Mock Draft. I myself have come up with a mix of what I think will happen and what I would do because of the fact that there is no clear cut tier of guys in this year’s class.
