Over the weekend, there was serious vandalism at a Northern California school that Steph and Ayesha Curry helped create. Developed with funding from the Currys’ Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation, the garden was set up at Oakland’s Global Family Elementary School for the 2022–2023 academic year.
Sadly, according to the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD), there has been significant damage to the garden. The thieves, according to OUSD officials, “tore apart the planters, ripped out the irrigation system, broke all the wooden benches, damaged a ladder, and left everything in the area in disarray.”
Authorities look for additional details
While authorities are pleading with anyone with knowledge regarding the incident to come forward, restoring the garden would cost a significant amount of money. OUSD said,
“It’s going to take a lot of time, effort, and resources to repair the school’s garden and return it to its previous pristine condition,” “It’s unfortunate that anyone would think that causing this kind of damage anywhere would be fun, funny, or a good idea. It only served to hurt the students and staff at the school.”
The Curry family, who established their foundation in 2019 with the goal of helping local youngsters, has not yet released a comment in response to the damage.
