Tua Tagovailoa is still a team member of the Miami Dolphins. A new four-year, $212.4 million contract between Miami and the quarterback was agreed upon on Friday, as reported by Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. A guaranteed $167.1 million is part of the arrangement.
With the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft—the same year that other signal-callers Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, and Jalen Hurts were selected—Miami made Tagovailoa its franchise quarterback.
However, the Alabama product had a patchy start to his career, which occasionally resulted in a lot of trade rumors.

After Tom Brady retired, Miami was even linked to the icon; prior to choosing to select Tagovailoa’s fifth-year option, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports stated that the team will “explore all options at quarterback.”
With Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle supporting him, Tua turned the corner during the last two seasons, and keeping him on a longer contract proved to be the best course of action.
With the announcement of his quarterback’s new contract, Hill in particular appeared pleased:

After finishing 8–5 as a starter and leading the Dolphins to the postseason in 2022, Tagovailoa passed for 3,548 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. In 2023, he recorded a league-high 4,624 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions after completing 69.3 percent of his throws.
