Joe Lacob Talks About Klay Thompson’s Exit : “We’ll Have to Kick His A**”

When Klay Thompson won his fourth championship with the Golden State Warriors, it seemed like it was yesterday. But most people, including Joe Lacob, the co-owner of the Bay Area team, find it hard to comprehend that he is now a Dallas Maverick. He was asked to discuss how the move made him feel during a recent interview with The Athletic, and he had an interesting response.

Lacob was sad to see such a vital member of the franchise go, as anyone would expect. However, he took care to acknowledge Thompson’s contributions to the team. Upon bringing up Klay’s relocation to Dallas, he added,

“I sent him that little video of me bowing to him… And it was just my way of saying, you know, he meant so much to us, and so much to this organization, and everything we’ve accomplished as a group, and that I still feel that way about him, and I always will. It will never change. I don’t care what people think happened… I hope we’re going to be friends forever. And he’s just going to be in Dallas for a few years, we’ll have to kick his a**! But that’s just the job. I’m sure he feels the same way”

Draymond Green’s reaction to Klay Thompson trade

But players sent out messages following Klay’s exit from the team. Draymond Green stated he was unsure of how to respond when he received the news. Green stated,

“It’s a classic tale of suppressing your emotions right now. I haven’t allowed myself to really process it. I don’t want to. I feel like I’ll face it when I have to face it. Nonetheless, I’m happy for Klay. Happy he gets the opportunity to play basketball at a high level and get back to feeling like Klay… I think he’s gonna have a really good year and he’s gonna show people he’s still got a lot left in the tank.”

Klay, Steph and Draymond

Joe Lacob appears to be adamant that Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors management are still close, despite the numerous stories indicating otherwise. It is indisputable that the player and this organization had some enjoyable times together, even though it can’t be confirmed at this point. It is difficult for those kinds of memories to fade, no matter how many arguments there may be between two people.

What transpires when the Warriors play the Dallas Mavericks next will be entertaining to watch.
