After a string of mistakes and an odd altercation with spectators, Simone Biles‘ Olympic career came to an end on Monday without securing a fourth gold medal.
The 27-year-old’s day started badly when she fell off the balancing beam, and she was unable to win back gold in her signature event due to a mistake on the floor.
Biles and Co.’s last day at the Bercy Arena began with the balance beam final, where she appeared to be left dissatisfied by certain spectators.
On the TV broadcast, Biles could be heard speaking to the crowd. It seemed like the American gymnast was saying, “Stop shushing, why are they shushing?”
Simone Biles has a disastrous day
On Monday, Biles fell off the beam after her US teammate Suni Lee and two other people. After three backflips in her performance, the six-time Olympic medallist Lee crashed.
Biles was quick to console her friend on the side after finishing her routine and leaping back up, saying, “It was so good though!”
Later, during her routine, Biles lost her balance and also went off the beam. She went back up on the beam, clearly frustrated, performed her routine flawlessly, and then hurried off the floor. After receiving scores of 13.100 for their routines, the two Americans were unable to secure medal positions.
Biles had previously won bronze on the balance beam at Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.
