The Miami Dolphins have made history by offering Tua Tagovailoa the richest contract they have ever made. The $4-year, $212 million agreement has drawn a lot of criticism, though, with fans and commentators now calling for the quarterback to have no margin for error.
One such person is sportscaster Chris Broussard, who recently discussed why Tua’s next four seasons will be a make-or-break affair on “First Things First,” in part because of the enormous salary.
Not surprising, given the QB’s miserable 6-15 record versus playoff teams, injury problems, and persistent charges of being a system player, that many are taken aback by the announcement of his $53 million yearly contract.
Tua Tagovailoa is on the clock
Keeping this in mind, Broussard delivered a fantastic one-liner that perfectly captured the pressure on Tua. He paraphrased the QB himself when he stated, “Heavy is the head that wears the crown.”
The analyst went on to say that Tua now has a bullseye on his back as a result of the significant deal. With all of the offensive tools available to him, every game that the Dolphins star plays will be closely watched, and every defeat will be viewed as a monumental setback.
The host also stated that the quarterback will only have wiggle room if the Dolphins lose by a narrow margin and his defense fails to stop him. He said,
“He’s the most highest paid employee in the franchise… so they are counting on you to get it done. You got all the weapons that a guy could hope for. My goodness, you got a great offensive play caller in Mike McDaniel, like there is no excuse for you not to go out there and get it done.”
The analyst made it clear that, like Chris Simms, he was a skeptic rather than a hater.
