In a recent revelation that stunned sports fans, American sprinter Noah Lyles claimed he does not know who NBA star Nikola Jokic is. Lyles, a world champion in the 200 meters, declared on the latest episode of the Nightcap podcast with NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe and former American football great Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson.
Nikola Jokic, a towering figure in the NBA, is the star center of the Denver Nuggets so for Noah Lyles saying he doesn’t know him is shocking to fans.
Sharpe then asked Lyles whether Nikola Jokic, the Serbian Denver Nuggets superstar center and three-time NBA MVP, is one of the best players in the world.
“I’ll be honest, I don’t know who that is,” Lyles smiled.
His response changed when he heard Sharpe say the names of Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
“I’ve heard of him,” Lyles said after hearing the host ask about Luka.
“Oh yeah,” he then said when Giannis’ name was mentioned. “What’s the question? Are they good? They’re great, they’re great players.”
Sharpe and Lyles went on to discuss how the appreciation of athletes differs in the US compared to other countries and why team sports are so much more celebrated nationally than winners like Lyles.
Fans think Noah Lyles was just being dramatic by claiming he has no idea who Nikola Jokic is. From his post shading NBA players that they aren’t world champions, this shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans.
