49ERS RB Christian McCaffrey Might Miss Out Game Vs Vikings, Adam Schefter Confirms

Christian McCaffrey‘s calf and Achilles problems have left him listed as inactive for Monday Night Football against the Jets, which is terrible news for 49ers fans. The issue has gotten worse since NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo first reported that McCaffrey would miss Week 1.

Given that the injury is more serious than first believed, NFL Insider Adam Schefter now speculates that McCaffrey might miss the Week 2 matchup against the Vikings. Since joining the 49ers in 2022, this is the first time McCaffrey has missed a game due to an injury.

According to Schefter on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown, McCaffrey and the 49ers first didn’t think the injury was a “big deal.” They therefore anticipated that he would play against the Jets. But McCaffrey’s “calf was still tight” during Monday’s practice, so the 49ers had to make a difficult choice. Schefter mentioned:

“Now let’s keep in mind he basically didn’t practice whole summer. Not just calf, but it was also his Achilles. So, you got two issues here. And they decided in the interest of it being a long season to hold him out tonight, not to activate him, to put him on the bench. Jordan Mason is going to start tonight. And not only is Christian McCaffrey out tonight, but there is a real chance he’s not going to play on Sunday either.”

With the 49ers traveling to play the Vikings, McCaffrey will have a limited amount of time to heal. As a result, Schefter acknowledged that “there’s a real, strong possibility” McCaffrey may miss another game on Sunday.

McCaffrey missed all preseason games and the majority of training camp practices due to a calf issue, which head coach Kyle Shanahan had previously disclosed on August 6.
