Chiefs Are Considering Kareem Hunt’s Return Following Pacheco’s Injury

The Kansas City Chiefs contemplate bringing back former standout Kareem Hunt as an option with Isiah Pacheco out. With Isiah Pacheco out due to injury, the Kansas City Chiefs are considering a reunion with former standout running back Kareem Hunt.Following Pacheco’s recent injury, Hunt is expected to visit with the Chiefs, raising the possibility that the team would bring him back to strengthen their rushing game.

After suffering a broken fibula during the Chiefs’ Week 2 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, Pacheco—who has emerged as the team’s main running back—is anticipated to miss six to eight weeks of action.

The Chiefs are looking for a seasoned replacement to take over as the starting quarterback in light of this big loss, and Hunt seems like a good fit.

Kareem Hunt can add some much needed experience

Currently a free agent, Hunt started his NFL career in 2017 with the Chiefs, where he had an instant impact. His 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground as a rookie helped him establish himself as one of the league’s most potent running backs. But after a video surfaced in November 2018 that appeared to show Hunt fighting with a woman, the Chiefs discarded him, abruptly ending his time in Kansas City. The NFL later penalized him for eight games.

Hunt played for the Cleveland Browns for the following four seasons after leaving Kansas City, where he was a reliable rusher and receiver. Over the course of his career, Hunt has amassed 1,890 receiving yards with 17 touchdown grabs, 40 rushing scores, and 4,436 rushing yards.

With Pacheco down, the Chiefs have few alternatives in the backfield. During Sunday’s victory over the Bengals, rookie Carson Steele entered the game and completed seven carries for 24 yards and one turnover. Although veteran Samaje Perine is certainly capable of carrying the load, neither of the two options can produce as much as Hunt could if he were to return to Kansas City.
