Hillarious Reason Why Jon Gruden Wants to Punch Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes can’t keep himself away from headlines. Even though he is no longer coaching, former NFL star Jon Gruden—who was the head coach of the Raiders and Buccaneers—finds ways to remain involved with the game. He recently surprised everyone by showing up at the Chiefs’ training camp while wearing team clothing, which led to speculation about a possible position on the club.

But Andy Reid, the head coach of the Chiefs, swiftly set the record straight, saying that Gruden’s visit was just social in nature and emphasized their close bond. Throughout his tenure with the Chiefs, Gruden was in awe of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Jon Gruden talks about wanting to punch Patrick Mahomes

In a preseason game against the Detroit Lions, Mahomes hit tight end Travis Kelce with an incredible behind-the-back ball. Gruden was shocked and said as much. He said,

He completed a pass behind his back. I wanted to go out and punch him for doing that.”

It was evident how much he respected Mahomes, calling the quarterback a “dazzling magician playing QB.” Reid has warned that he won’t put up with such dangerous plays during regular-season games, even though he was the one who first pushed Mahomes to try them. Reid has acknowledged Mahomes’ penchant for the dramatic. Although it’s understandable that fans want to see Mahomes work the same magic throughout the season, it doesn’t seem realistic that he will take such risks when the stakes are bigger.
