Paul George, one of the biggest free agents this summer, was signed by the Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers front office extended the contract of their star player Joel Embiid in order to further reinforce their roster. The 76ers’ odds of winning the NBA again have grown thanks to Embiid’s contract extension, but his health going into the postseason is a concern.
The hosts of SiriusXM NBA Radio talked about Embiid’s offer of a three-year, $192 million contract extension. Even though the hosts declared the game a victory, they also acknowledged that Embiid is prone to injuries and how that may impact the squad in the future.
“This Joel Embiid extension, on multiple levels, is a win for the Sixers. We just gotta wonder if it will help the Sixers win. I’ve always given Joel Embiid a tremendous amount of credit, for his willingness to play far less than 100% in the playoffs.”
Joel Embiid has reportedly signed a three year, $193 million contract extension with a player option in 2028-29.

The host, Brian Geltzeiler, praised Embiid for his resilience and will to compete despite his injuries, as demonstrated during the previous postseason run. He also talked about how crucial it is for the squad that he stays well when it counts most.
“Nonetheless, for the Sixers, they gotta hit a playoff with him one of these years where he’s gonna be a healthy player. Either he can be or he can’t be. More times than not, he’s not been able to be a healthy player for the Sixers.”
Embiid is undoubtedly the team’s star player, as seen by this contract extension, but Philly has also overinvested this summer. In addition to awarding the former MVP center with a max contract extension, the 76ers will give 34-year-old George a four-year/max deal. Thus, it is evident that Philly intends to contend seriously for a championship and is not messing around.
