Now that Sony has officially wrapped up the Spider-Man Home Trilogy and Venom’s trilogy is ending with Venom: The Last Dance, there are substantial rumors as to what the next big adventure would be for both characters. If we are to believe the rumors, there could be two different possibilities for our characters and one of them could be a multiversal team-up. Recently, I heard that the upcoming Spider-Man film might pit Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Tom Hardy’s Venom together, with Venom: The Last Dance setting up the interaction. By the end of Venom: The Last Dance, we may see Eddie Brock cross over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with some sources indicating that the recent reshoots in NYC for Venom: The Last Dance has to do with that, but that remains unconfirmed for now. Not only that, but I’m hearing that the potential villain for this film would be Knull, who is seeking to enshroud the entire multiverse in his darkness following its discovery. It’s important to note that the Venom symbiote is currently in two different universes, the Sony-Verse and the MCU. This link may spark Knull to seek out Venom in 616 and be on a mission to engulf the multiverse in darkness. … Knull has some interesting origins deeply rooted within the Multiverse, so the idea could be plausible. Who knows? Maybe Knull lost his Necrosword in an incursion, and it slipped into 616 while he hid in the middle of two multiverses.
Perez further states that the original idea for Spider-Man was to see him team up with Daredevil in a “friendly neighborhood movie,” but that Sony is pushing for something a little more grand. For some fans, the idea of Daredevil and Spider-Man might be more appealing than Venom and Spider-Man. Honestly, I think fans win either way. That said, I do have opinions on which one should take place over the other.
I’ve never been the biggest Daredevil fan but even with that being the case, I feel like a Spider-Man film with Venom and Knull is going to be so much better. Knull is a universal threat with his power and he’s a multiversal threat if he has his Necrosword, just ask Knowhere. Knowhere, made famous in the Guardians of the Galaxy, is the head of a dead Celestial. It was Knull and his Necrosword who relieved that Celestial of his head, so Knull’s power is not to be underestimated. As an Eldritch god, his power is immense and the tools he’s created to assist him make him even more of a threat.
In the comics, it took the power of Venom and the Enigma Force to bring about the end of Knull, that’s how powerful the dude is. Daredevil and Spider-Man teaming up is cool, but at this stage in the MCU, fans expect crossovers to have a bit more meat on the bone than just taking down the villain of the week. Spider-Man and Daredevil taking down Wilson Fisk and Mister Negative doesn’t even come close to being as exciting as Venom and Spider-Man teaming up to stop someone with the power to kill a Celestial. We’ve come too far in these films and fans genuinely expect huge crossovers, not battles against basic baddies.
All I know is that Marvel and Sony will be printing money regardless of which story they end up choosing. If it is Venom and Spider-Man, it will make bank. If it’s Venom and Daredevil, it will make bank. It really doesn’t matter because Spider-Man sells and team-ups will sell even better. I just happen to vibe with the Knull story more than the Kingpin story because it has bigger stakes, and I have already seen Kingpin defeated by not one, but two different heroes — Daredevil and Echo. This would be the third time he’s been defeating, something not even Loki has accomplished. Give me Knull.
