Michael Jordan has always been the epitome of the competitive spirit. MJ’s fierce competition in other sports is also widely known, despite the fact that his basketball exploits have earned him sainthood. Together with Tom Brady, another consistent winner, they produced some amazing moments in 2006.
At a charity celebrity golf tournament in the Bahamas, Jordan teamed up with the NFL legend. Brady won three Super Bowl championships by the year 2006, whereas Michael Jordan retired in 2003 after winning six NBA championships.
MJ mentioned that he and Brady are used to winning titles during the pre-game interview. Even when they’re not participating in their main sports, they always aim for the top spot. Jordan declared with assurance:
“We are used to it [winning championships]. I don’t think we have done anything other than that. I mean when we play, we all wanna win. It’s so different out here on the golf course. He plays football, and I play basketball. We wanna win and have a good time here.”
Jordan delivered on his promise, and the renowned team duly won the competition. With a two-shot lead over basketball coach Bill Guthridge and baseball great Rollie Fingers, they finished first. Charles Barkley, who played with Jordan at the time and placed fourth with baseball great Jon Smoltz, was also present.
Recently, a video from a pickup game that Brady and Jordan played together as well as a clip from their pre-game interview reappeared on Instagram. John McEnroe, the tennis legend, was also irritated by Brady and MJ throughout the event. Brady expressed McEnroe’s feelings after losing against them on Let’s Go Pod in 2023. The legend of the Patriots said:
“He [John McEnroe] was like this is such bulls*it. You two are on the same team. How are we doing this? And you know, we kind of ran away with it, the golf tournament… But John was still as feisty as ever and wanted to win and now he’s so pi*sed… Michael was stacking the deck in his own tournament. So it was pretty amazing.”
In any case, this was one of the few occasions in which Michael Jordan triumphed in a golf competition following years of arduous effort. The fact that he accepted one of his awards with NFL Hall of Famer Tom Brady is poetry.
