Tank Dell Describes How Being Shot Shortly After Suffering a Leg Injury Left Him “Mentally Messed Up”

Texans wide receiver Tank Dell had almost fully healed from a leg injury when he was shot in a Florida bar shooting in May 2024, resulting in another bizarre leg injury. According to Dell, the injury was not serious and the occurrence occurred at the “wrong place at the wrong time.”

His health suffered after back-to-back ailments, and he acknowledged that he “had a lot of weight on my shoulders” in his Pivot Podcast interview with Ryan Clark. Before disclosing how he overcame the setback, Dell recounted the shooting night and how it broke him down:

“Went out that night, and that happened. After that, I’m like, bro, I just felt like stuff kept happening back to back to back. I’m like, I couldn’t shake it. So, mentally, I was kind of messed up. But then I just felt like I was the only person that was going to pull myself out of it.”

Within three weeks of the gunshot injury, Dell was back to full strength and participated in every Texans OTA. But it was a terrifying experience that left many, including Dell, physically and psychologically damaged.

Dell was a bystander at a private event in Sanford on the day of the massacre when a juvenile gunman opened fire on 10 individuals following an altercation. Fortunately, a Texans representative stated that Dell only had a “minor wound.”

Luckily, none of the victims suffered injuries that would have been fatal. According to reports, a witness who was not participating in the brawl pulled out a firearm and started shooting after there had been a fistfight. After putting the gunman down with some force, a security guard took his weapon.
