After the Minnesota Lynx Force Game 5, Sandy Brondello Ruthlessly Attacks Officials

The Minnesota Lynx defeated the New York Liberty 82-80 in a thrilling game on Friday, forcing a fifth and final game in the WNBA Finals. With two seconds remaining, Bridget Carleton made two free throws, making her the pivotal player.

Sandy Brondello, the head coach of the New York Liberty, was not pleased with the outcome, but he was even more upset with the officials. “I’ll say this. After the game, Brondello remarked, “I know Cheryl said it last time, but we got no calls today.”

“Do I have to speak up in a press conference? They called ticky-tacks and we were down there and got hit, and got nothing… I’m one of the nicest bloody coaches in the league, but this pisses me off. Just be fair, you know? If they’re getting hit, it’s a bloody foul.”

It was a difficult defeat for New York

Liberty stars Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu had a bad shooting night as Minnesota’s offense was spearheaded by Kayla McBride (19 points) and Courtney Williams (15 points).

The loss for New York was sealed when Ionescu missed his last try at the buzzer and Stewart, who had scored 30 points in Game 3, only managed 11. Minnesota is currently one victory away from winning its sixth WNBA championship, ending its historic tie with the Seattle Storm and Houston Comets.

The Liberty, on the other side, will want to turn things around and win their first championship after losing in five straight finals. In what is sure to be a memorable clash, everything will be settled in New York on Sunday.
