Nick Bosa Rises to the Top of the Unexpected NFL List After Making His MAGA Declaration

As you are likely already aware, 2022 Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa made an unexpected appearance in a post-game interview last Sunday night following the San Francisco 49ers’ 30-24 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. He pointed to a white “MAGA” hat, which is the catchphrase of Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” political campaign, before rushing to the locker room.

The endorsement itself isn’t shocking because Bosa has openly backed Trump throughout the 2020 campaign against Joe Biden; what is noteworthy, though, is the platform he used to provide Trump with “free advertising” in light of the forthcoming election on Tuesday, November 5. Remember to cast your ballot; every vote matters.

Nick Bosa’s MAGA Moment Causes a Jump in Jersey Sales

The NFL hasn’t commented on this incident yet, but I would expect them to do something considering how widely Bosa’s act has been praised and criticized. In accordance with NFL Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8: “During the entire period on game day when a player is visible to the stadium and television audience (including during pregame warmups, in the bench area, and during post game interviews in the locker room or on the field), players are prohibited from wearing, displaying, or otherwise conveying any personal message, whether written or illustrated, unless such message has been approved in advance by the league office.”

Later this week, a fine will probably be imposed.

According to sources, Nick Bosa’s San Francisco 49ers jersey number 97 has become one of the best-selling items since his appearance, primarily because of his political message. Bosa appears to have made connections with a number of supporters who want to back Donald Trump on Tuesday.

With two Super Bowl appearances in four years, an NFL DPOY (2022), and an NFL DROY (2019), Bosa is among the league’s greatest athletes. Regarding his relocation, I believe he made a good use of the opportunity. What interests me, though, is that he only responded as follows when questioned about it during the press conference: “I’m not going to talk about it too much, but I think it’s an important time.”

There isn’t much space for error as the 49ers are tied for first place in the NFC West at 4-4 with the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks. They first travel to Tampa Bay, a squad that has experienced injury problems; they next host the Seahawks, whom they defeated in Week 6; and they conclude the month with an NFL classic at Lambeau Field versus the Green Bay Packers, a replay of the Divisional Round matchup from the previous year.
