If Jared Goff, the quarterback for the Detroit Lions, could have imagined how he wanted Monday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks to go, it was probably too good to be true.
The 29-year-old completed 18 of 18 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns, including a 70-yard touchdown pass to Jameson Williams, without throwing a single incomplete pass during the 42-29 victory.
According to the NFL, by doing this, Goff made NFL history as the first quarterback to attempt over ten passes in a game without throwing an incompletion. Goff was questioned by ESPN’s Lisa Salters about his flawless accuracy that night, and he was unaware that he had not missed a pass.
Jared Goff talks about creating history
And when he finally gave it some thought, his response was subdued. About creating history, Goff remarked: “Awesome. Yeah, really cool,”. “It’s a cool thing to have, I guess, but I’m happy we got the win.”
In addition, midway through the third quarter, Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown threw Goff his first-ever touchdown pass on a trick play, making the evening even more memorable for him.
Dan Campbell, the head coach of the Lions, expressed his dismay after handing Williams the game ball before learning of Goff’s historic night. He said : “I knew he played a heck of a game. I did not realize he was perfect. I did not know he was literally 18-for-18,”. “But I knew he played really well; you could feel it.”
“He really found his rhythm early, and I thought he was seeing the field, played with rhythm, he had to move a little bit in the pocket. … Just a number of huge throws. Played with poise.”
To defeat a confident Seahawks club that had not lost before, the Lions required a complete team effort as they traveled to Ford Field. With a score on the opening drive of the second half, Seattle quarterback Geno Smith narrowed the deficit to seven points despite his heroic efforts to stay up with the home team.
But while the teams exchanged scores, Detroit’s early edge meant it held on for the win, rising to 3-1 while the Seahawks slumped to the same record. Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III scored three touchdowns on the ground while Smith completed 38 of his 56 passes for 395 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
According to the NFL, Aidan Hutchinson, who plays defense for the Detroit Red Wings, had the most pressures of any player in a game this season with a career-high 10.
