Travis Kelce and his quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, had a friendly bet over the result of their recent college alma mater’s football game. Jim Nantz of CBS reported that on Saturday, Mahomes’ Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated Kelce’s Cincinnati Bearcats, with Texas Tech winning.
The wager had some playful conditions: had Cincinnati prevailed, Mahomes would have been required to show up to his next team press conference donning a Bearcats jersey and the mascot’s head.
However, since Texas Tech won, Kelce will now need to display his “Red Raiders pride” on a future episode of his podcast, “New Heights,” with Jason Kelce, by donning the jersey and mascot head. He said: “[Kelce] and Mahomes, they have such a friendship and chemistry,”.
“They came in together to meet with us last night.
“They were all excited about going back Saturday evening and watching their two alma maters square off, Texas Tech and Cincinnati, which ended up being an unbelievable game, won by Texas Tech, 44-41. The Bearcats missed a 50-yard field goal – last play the game. Of course, they had a little side wager.”
Previously, Kelce’s lighthearted wagers have returned to bother him. He matched Vice President of Communications for the Chiefs Brad Gee in a similar bet last season. Kelce placed a wager on Cincinnati to defeat Illinois State University, the alma mater of Gee, but the Bearcats fell short 30–10.
To the surprise of teammates and spectators alike, Kelce consequently showed up to a team press conference wearing the head of ISU’s mascot, Reggie Redbird.
