Troy Aikman Trashes Dallas Cowboys’ Receivers Saying “They run terrible routes”

In a recent critique of the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive performance, former NFL quarterback Troy Aikman did not hold back his concerns regarding the team’s receivers. Aikman bluntly stated, “They run terrible routes!”

Aikman’s comments reflect his deep understanding of the game and disappointment with the receivers’ execution. As a three-time Super Bowl champion and one of the greatest quarterbacks in Cowboys’ history, Aikman’s perspective carries weight.

Throughout his playing career, Aikman consistently displayed exceptional accuracy and timing with his receivers. Therefore, it is understandable why he would be frustrated with the current receivers’ inability to run precise routes.

Following a disappointing 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions, he made a guest appearance on 96.7 The Ticket and didn’t hold back. “I think they run terrible routes,” Aikman remarked bluntly.

“And I’ve thought that beyond this year. I think CeeDee (Lamb) has got to improve in his route running.” His comments reflect a deep concern about the precision and effort of the team’s receivers, which he believes significantly impacts the quarterback’s ability to perform.

Aikman pointed out that effective route-running is crucial for a quarterback’s success. “As a quarterback, if you’re not certain where guys are going to be consistently, it’s hard to play the position,” he explained.

He criticized the laziness he perceives in some receivers, stating, “Sometimes they run, usually if they do, it’s because they’re anticipating they’re going to get the football on that play, but if they’re not, they don’t.” This kind of inconsistency makes it tough for quarterbacks like Dak Prescott to excel, as Aikman emphasized the need for reliability from the receiving corps.

In comparing the Cowboys’ receivers to those on other successful teams, Aikman noted the impressive route-running of players like Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman from the Baltimore Ravens.

“You put on film of theirs and watch their receivers run routes… It’s hard to play the (QB) position if you’re not certain how guys are going to run routes or where they’re going to be,” he said. Aikman was careful to clarify that his critique wasn’t necessarily reflective of Dak Prescott’s opinions, adding, “Dak may say, ‘Hey, I think (their routes) are amazing.’ But as a former quarterback watching it, it’s gotta get a lot better.”

The receivers, coaching staff, and organization must take Aikman’s remarks seriously. Recognizing the importance of running precise routes and addressing issues in this area will be vital in improving offensive performance and ensuring the team’s success. Troy has spoken!
