Zaya Wade recently spilled the beans about her dad, Dwyane Wade, and how he’s been scaring off any potential suitors she may have. The case of an overprotective dad! I mean, can you blame him? Dwyane Wade is one tough man, and I wouldn’t want to mess with him either.
Zaya opened up about it during an interview, saying that her dad has been super protective of her and has even intimidated any suitor who tries to get close to her. But that’s not the case with her stepmom, Gabrielle Union, as she is all in support of her dates and encourages her to meet the people she likes.
I have to say, it’s pretty sweet to see a father looking out for his daughter like that. It’s clear that Dwyane wants what’s best for Zaya and wants to ensure she’s with someone who will treat her respectfully. And hey, if that means scaring away a few potential suitors, so be it.
In a new interview with Seventeen, Zaya was asked about her dating life and how her dad, retired NBA player Dwyane Wade, and stepmom, actress Gabrielle Union, feel about her getting into romantic relationships—or rather, “situationships”—at such a young age. “I could lie and say we’re just trying to get into college, but we’re high school girls,” Zaya told the outlet, adding: “‘Dating’ is an aggressive term though. In Gen Z, situationships are king.”
She continued, “In no way are we opposed to a relationship, but sometimes there’s comfort in not being so locked in. At the end of day, I have to focus on me.”
As for how her parents feel about her dating, Zaya explained, “They’re really cool about it. Me and my stepmom love to dish the dirt and tap into the high school gossip. She gets excited for me when I’m like, ‘Oh, I like this person.'”
Her dad, on the other hand, “tries to scare any person I have interest in,” says Zaya. “He’s kind of intimidating,” she admitted. “The people I’ve dated have all been afraid of him in the first interaction. He’s gigantic and has this deep, booming voice. But the facade only lasts for so long and you actually see his real personality. He’s a teddy bear.”
So, for all you guys out there who might have been hoping to win over Zaya’s heart, just know that you’ll have to go through Dwyane Wade first. Good luck, because he’s not one to mess with!
