Carolina Panthers’ Newly-signed Linebacker JJ Weaver Has Six Fingers

The Carolina Panthers‘ newest linebacker, JJ Weaver, actually has six fingers! Yes, you read that right. This player isn’t your average football player, that’s for sure.

Having six fingers might seem like a disadvantage, but once you were born with it, you use it to your advantage.

Last week, the Carolina Panthers announced they signed Weaver and waived fellow linebacker Amare Barno. The 25-year-old played for the Kentucky Wildcats from 2019 to 2024, finally landing his first NFL opportunity three months after the 2025 Draft.

After Carolina signed him, several folks on X/Twitter noted that Weaver has six fingers on his right hand. He was born with polydactyly, a rare condition in which someone is born with extra fingers or toes.

Over his six seasons at Kentucky, Weaver appeared in 58 games and tallied 197 tackles, 21.5 sacks, two interceptions, eight pass breakups and five forced fumbles. He helped the Wildcats to three bowl game victories over his six seasons, the Belk Bowl (2019), Gator Bowl (2020) and Citrus Bowl (2021).

So next time you see Weaver tearing it up on the field, just remember – he’s got a little something extra up his sleeve with that sixth finger of his!
