Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s New Deal Worth $285 Million Makes Him the Highest Paid Player

In 2024–25, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the team to the NBA championship and won the league and NBA Finals MVP honors. Very few players have had a season like that.

After being selected to the All-NBA teams for two of the previous three seasons, SGA was eligible for a supermax contract extension last season. In the summer, he became eligible for a four- or five-year supermax extension with Oklahoma City after reaching his service time minimum this year.

According to Shams Charania, he has chosen the four-year option, which is valued at over a quarter of a billion dollars and makes SGA the highest-paid player in NBA history in terms of yearly compensation.

The value of Gilgeous-Alexander’s new contract is $285 million, or more than $71 million annually.

According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the deal will begin for the 2027–2028 season and will increase from over $63.5 million in the first year to over $78.7 million in the last season, 2030–31. SGA’s current contract, which is valued $79.1 million, will be in effect for the final two years.

With the full deal worth, Gilgeous-Alexander’s lifetime earnings are expected to surpass $400 million.
