In 2024–25, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the team to the NBA championship and won the league and NBA Finals MVP honors. Very few players have had a season like that.
After being selected to the All-NBA teams for two of the previous three seasons, SGA was eligible for a supermax contract extension last season. In the summer, he became eligible for a four- or five-year supermax extension with Oklahoma City after reaching his service time minimum this year.
According to Shams Charania, he has chosen the four-year option, which is valued at over a quarter of a billion dollars and makes SGA the highest-paid player in NBA history in terms of yearly compensation.
The value of Gilgeous-Alexander’s new contract is $285 million, or more than $71 million annually.
