WNBA legend Diana Taurasi has come under fire from fans who have compared her pay to that of arena janitors. Taurasi’s remarks regarding her salary in a recent documentary sparked reactions on social media.
A trailer for a documentary about Taurasi was made available on Prime Video. The 43-year-old WNBA legend, who is currently retired, becomes one of the greatest female basketball players of all time, as the documentary demonstrates.
However, during one segment, Taurasi talked about her professional basketball playing days in Turkey and Russia. She stated:
“We weren’t making that much money, so generational wealth was coming from going to Russia every year. Now we have to come back home and get paid nothing to play in a harder league in worse conditions against the best competition in the world,”
“The f***ing janitor in the arena made more than me.”
Fans react to Diana Taurasi’s comments
Taurasi’s janitor remark did not sit well with fans. Fans were sure to inquire about Taurasi’s grievance regarding her WNBA wage, and it’s important to note that her final yearly salary with the Phoenix Mercury was $234,000. Here were some comments:
“”…the f***ing janitor…” What an entitled s***head,”
“At no point did the janitor make more than Diana Taurasi, why does she does she have to disrespect that person?”
“Her salary was $234k, not including Nike and BodyArmor endorsements. The Janitor does not make what she makes,”
“Just an awful look,”
During her domestic summer, Taurasi was not the only prominent WNBA player to take her skills abroad. Brittney Griner performed abroad as well, but in 2022, she was imprisoned in a Russian jail. Taurasi eventually made over a quarter of a million dollars a year after earning $115,000 for four seasons.
