Shedeur Sanders of the Browns Expresses His Annoyance With the Head Coach Benching Him

On the Cleveland Browns’ sideline on Saturday night, Shedeur Sanders was clearly irritated, and he explained why. Tyler Huntley led a game-winning field goal drive to win the preseason game, even though the Browns won 19–17. Despite his efforts, Huntley has subsequently been removed off the Browns’ roster.

In the meantime, Sanders’ debut performance in front of the Browns supporters wasn’t the best. He had trouble settling into Cleveland’s offense and was fired five times.

Sanders, however, acknowledged that he expressed his desire to be the one to lead the Browns to the walk-off field goal to head coach Kevin Stefanski. Stefanski declined, choosing Huntley instead, and the seasoned quarterback performed admirably. According to Cleveland.com, Sanders stated: “In the battle of the moment, in the heat of the battle, you want to be that alpha,”

“You want to be that dog. You want to be out there in that final two-minute drive. So, of course, small things, of course frustrated, but that’s what happens when you want to be a player to be able to change a franchise.”

When he realized he wouldn’t be returning to the game, Sanders, who had taken over the game in the second half, was warming up on the exercise bike. Prior to the Huntley drive, Sanders stated: “I didn’t know I was out,” “I was powering up for that two-minute drive because that’s just a situation every quarterback dreams for. That’s many situations I’ve been in before and I thought I was in, so then he told me I wasn’t in and I was like, ‘OK.’”
