According to a report by ESPN’s David Purdum, the NBA is looking into the gambling accusations made against free agency guard Malik Beasley internally.
Steve Haney, the veteran guard’s lawyer, told ESPN earlier this summer that Beasley was no longer the subject of the federal investigation into his gambling during the offseason. This investigation was the same one that resulted in former NBA forward Jontay Porter receiving a lifetime ban from the league.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Beasley was close to re-signing with the Pistons for a three-year contract worth $42 million at the time the FBI inquiry was announced. Since then, the offer has been withdrawn.
It is thought that the league is nearing the end of its probe. The extent of Beasley’s punishment, if any, for the gambling accusations is yet unknown.
Beasley averaged 16.3 points per game on 43% shooting and a scorching hot 41.6% from three-point range in 82 games during the previous season’s regular season.
