Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia just reminded us that throwing shade doesn’t always require a press conference or a fiery tweet. Sometimes, all it takes is a little comment and a lot of intention.
And from the subtle shade, it seems Mat has moved on from Kevin Durant.
Appearing on ESPN’s NBA Today Wednesday, Ishbia was asked about the blockbuster offseason trade that sent Durant to the Houston Rockets. While he acknowledged Durant’s individual greatness, Ishbia made it clear that he no longer views the 14-time All-Star as part of the Suns’ future vision.
“Kevin Durant’s a great player, there’s no one that can ever question that,” Ishbia said. “But he just wasn’t a fit for what we’re doing going forward. Obviously, he’s had an amazing career, but he’s not a fit for what we’re gonna do going forward.”
