Have you heard about the drama with Charleston White getting chased out of an HBCU over his thoughts on the black community? It’s been all over the socials and people are really fired up about it. If you’re not familiar, Charleston White is known for speaking his mind on controversial topics, especially when it comes to the black community.
But things got real when he was invited to speak at an HBCU and students weren’t having it. They felt like his views were harmful and didn’t align with their values, so they made sure he knew he wasn’t welcome. The whole thing blew up online and now everyone’s talking about it.
Footage from the event shows White going back and forth with students over his remarks before abruptly leaving. In the video, the comedian can be seen defending himself as he makes his way off campus. According to White, he was having a debate in front of students at Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi, when the fracas ensued.
In another clip, White can be seen going back and forth with what appear to be students from the school, who asked him questions about race. “Fuck racism, I don’t believe in racism,” the comedian can be heard saying. “Why would you come to an HBCU?” someone asked.
“Charleston White says “I don’t give a f*** about no HBCUs” while on the campus of Tougaloo College aka the Cradle of the Civil Rights Movement in Mississippi,” reads the caption of the clip.
White shared his perspective on the matter on Monday via his YouTube channel. After showing the clips of the incident that went viral, he said he was invited by the college to speak during a forum. “When I get here, they got a whole forum set up. They got the news there,” he said.
“I didn’t know I’m scheduled to speak at a school, but I didn’t know it was two schools,” he continued. White claimed that he was debating with a man he referred to as “Dr. Scholar,” who, he said, merged the topics of “snitching, race, class, gender, and sex into civil rights topics.”
“But when I heard a line of questioning, I was taken aback,” he said. “So I’m listening to this n***a Dr. Scholar intertwine snitching into slavery, persecution, oppression. So I said, man, let me let me talk real to these kids.”
