The Miami Dolphins and general manager Chris Grier have mutually agreed to part ways, the team announced Friday, ending a 25-year run that included three playoff appearances but no postseason victories.
ESPN‘s Adam Schefter first reported the news, which came after a morning meeting between Grier and Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. Grier, 55, joined the organization in 2000 as a scout and ascended to GM in 2016, overseeing a roster rebuild that featured high-profile acquisitions like Tyreek Hill, Jalen Ramsey and Bradley Chubb.
Chris Grier has been with the Dolphins since 2000 — starting as a scout and working his way up to GM in 2016.
During his tenure as GM, Miami made the playoffs three times.

Under Grier’s watch, Miami posted back-to-back winning seasons in 2022 and 2023, qualifying for the playoffs each year. The Dolphins’ 2023 campaign included an 11-6 record and an AFC East title, though they fell in the wild-card round. This season, however, Miami has struggled with a 2-7 mark through 10 weeks, plagued by injuries and defensive woes.
“Chris has been an integral part of our organization for more than two decades, and we appreciate his dedication and contributions,” Ross said in a statement. “This decision allows us to chart a new course as we continue building toward sustained success.”
Grier’s tenure drew fan frustration amid the team’s longest playoff win drought in the NFL — stretching back to January 2000. Banners reading “Fire Grier, Fire McDaniel” flew over Hard Rock Stadium during a September loss, and online campaigns amplified calls for change.
The Dolphins now face a pivotal search for Grier’s replacement, with the Nov. 5 trade deadline looming. Potential candidates could include internal promotions or external hires like former Raiders assistant GM Champ Kelly, recently added to Miami’s front office.
Head coach Mike McDaniel’s status remains secure for now, per sources, though the front-office shake-up signals broader roster evaluations ahead.
Miami hosts the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, offering a chance to regroup amid the uncertainty.
