The arrest is tied to an alleged underground poker ring associated with mafia-linked gambling activity.
Earlier the same day, Terry Rozier, of the Miami Heat, was arrested in Orlando as part of investigation surrounding a March 2023 game when he played for the Charlotte Hornets.
Billups’ case reportedly involves illegal poker games allegedly tied to the Bonanno, Genovese and Colombo crime families, with 31 individuals implicated nationwide.
With the NBA increasingly vigilant about gambling-related manipulation, Billups’ arrest adds a major chapter in the league’s fight for integrity. NBA is yet to issue a full comment on the matter, while the FBI has arranged for a press conference.
