Adam Silver, Commissioner of the NBA, broke his silence following the arrests of Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier in the federal gambling investigation, calling the allegations “very upsetting.” The broadcast happenened during a Celtics-Knicks game.
Speaking with Cassidy Hubbarth, he said, “My initial reaction was I was deeply disturbed. There’s nothing more important to the league and its fans than the integrity of the competition.” He added, “I had a pit in my stomach.”

Answering Hubbarth’s questions, Silver further addressed the earlier probe into Rozier’s suspicious game performance in March 2023, noting that while the NBA flagged unusual betting patterns, the league’s investigation found “insufficient evidence.” He explained that the league continues collaborating with federal authorities:
“The federal government has subpoena power … can threaten to put people in jail … we’ve been working with them since then.”
Silver also offered a public apology to fans: “I apologize to our fans that we are all dealing with this situation.”
Billups and Rozier have both been placed on administratve leave since the arrests.
With more than 30 individuals arrested and the league’s reputation on the line, Silver emphasized that while the process must protect everyone’s rights, the NBA will do everything possible to preserve the game’s credibility and restore public trust as investigations continue.
