Wings Decline Reporter’s Question To Azzi Fudd About Relationship With Paige Bueckers

Two women stand close together indoors: one in a pink hoodie, the other in a navy and red windbreaker, both looking at the camera.

The Dallas Wings just gave us a masterclass in “next question, please” energy, and honestly, it was almost poetic. During what was supposed to be a normal, harmless media session, things took a turn when a reporter decided to play relationship detective. The target? None other than Azzi Fudd. The topic? Her rumored relationship with fellow basketball star Paige Bueckers.

Nothing says “serious sports journalism” like asking about someone’s love life mid-interview.

Before Fudd could even blink twice, the Wings stepped in like a strict parent at a sleepover. The question was quickly shut down, swatted away, and basically escorted out of the room without so much as a goodbye wave.

And just like that, poof, no gossip for you.

The story started Thursday morning when Dallas officially introduced Fudd at a press conference. A reporter asked Fudd: “Paige (Bueckers) announced last year on TikTok that ya’ll were a couple. And I’m wondering if that’s still the case, and if so, have ya’ll talked to any other couples in the league about how they negotiate that dynamic as pro teammates?”

But before Fudd could respond, a team spokeswoman jumped in to swat away his query.

“I understand why you have to ask that question. But we are going to respectfully decline on commenting on a player’s personal life,” the staffer declared. “Next question…”

It was an awkward moment. On the surface, it seemed like a fair question. After all, Bueckers herself confirmed in July that she was in a relationship with her former UConn teammate. People magazine gave its readers the “inside” story of the partnership on Tuesday, writing “their relationship—on and off the court—is as sweet as it gets.”

They kept things moving, kept things professional, and most importantly, kept the focus where it belongs. Basketball.

Meanwhile, the reporter who asked the question is probably somewhere rethinking their life choices, or at least their next question.

So, lesson learned: if you’re stepping into a Wings press conference, maybe leave the relationship rumors at the door, unless, of course, you want your question blocked harder than a rookie’s layup attempt.
