An alleged workplace affair has ended in a horrific killing in Virginia.
Alexis Antonio Cedillos-Campos, 19, is accused of fatally stabbing his 42-year-old co-worker, Carmen Lizet Puch. Police say the two worked together at a restaurant in Herndon and were allegedly involved in an intimate relationship.
Then the screenshots allegedly arrived.
According to court documents, Puch allegedly sent screenshots of their relationship to Cedillos-Campos’ girlfriend. That move apparently turned a messy love triangle into a deadly nightmare.
Nothing says “relationship problems” quite like evidence arriving in the girlfriend’s inbox.
Police say Cedillos-Campos became angry after learning that Puch had allegedly revealed the affair. Investigators now accuse him of attacking her with a knife.
And apparently, he was MAD mad. A witness told investigators Cedillos-Campos left work early that night and allegedly said he was going to kill Puch. The same witness later overheard the two making plans to meet around 1:30 a.m.
Police say surveillance video showed Cedillos-Campos taking a large knife, black gloves and a water bottle from the restaurant. Investigators allege he later filled the bottle with gasoline from his motorcycle.
Authorities say the two met at Difficult Run Trail Park, where Puch was fatally stabbed. Police allege Cedillos-Campos also poured gasoline on her and attempted to set her on fire, but was unsuccessful. Around 4 a.m., the witness claims Cedillos-Campos called and simply said he “did it” before hanging up. Puch was discovered near her vehicle by a jogger later that morning.
Police say Cedillos-Campos confessed and has been charged with second-degree murder. Puch leaves behind a 3-year-old daughter. Friends described the 42-year-old mother as soft-spoken and hardworking.
Puch’s death leaves behind a family and community dealing with a tragedy that grew out of a relationship that was supposed to remain secret.
The screenshots may have exposed the alleged affair.
Sadly, they also appear to have exposed something much darker.
