Prison Officer Amos Nyanway Charged For Selling Chicken Wings To Inmates

Texas prison officer Amos Nyanway is facing criminal charges for allegedly running a fast-food cartel at the Travis County Jail, allegedly selling chicken wings to inmates at $6 per wing. Yes, you read that right!

Apparently, Amos saw a gap in the prison market and decided to tap in and rake in some dollars but here he is, facing charges and about to be thrown into the same prison he guarded.

During a separate investigation, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office said on August 21 an officer with the Security Threat Intelligence Unit discovered an officer may have provided contraband to an inmate, TCSO said in a release.

The contraband was discovered to have been the chicken wings, according to TCSO.

The corrections officer and former US Army soldier had been employed with the sheriff’s office since June 17 of last year.

Nyanway was fired on October 14, according to the release.

He was booked into Travis County Jail on the same day as his firing.

Sheriff Sally Hernandez said in a statement: ‘I’m disappointed that a Travis County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Officer made such a foolish decision.

‘We hold our employees to a high standard of conduct and accountability. We simply cannot tolerate contraband of any type being brought into our secure facilities.’

Nyanway faces up to six months in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,000.

The moral? Don’t do crime in prison—especially not overpriced chicken crime. But if you must, at least throw in some discount.
